Review: City of Bones.

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) by Cassandra Clare.

Genre: Paranormal Romance.

PublishedApril 14th 2009 by Margaret K. McElderry Books

Synopsis:

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

MY THOUGHTS:

I'll be brief in this review because I will add some quotes from the book and they speak by themselves.
This book was really good, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because as everybody was talking about it and saying how wonderful it is, I was expecting even more.

Though, I'd totally recommend it since it's action packed and it scored an A+ in originality!

The writing is sublime, completely high class and also it is HILARIOUS

“Don't order any of the faerie food," said Jace, looking at her over the top of his menu. "It tends to make humans a little crazy. One minute you're munching a faerie plum, the next minute you're running naked down Madison Avenue with antlers on your head. Not," he added hastily, "that this has ever happened to me.”

There are a lot of characters and all of them are complete, you get to know them, they are deep and their personality is well described. Each of them with a background story that will leave you with your mouth opened!

The main characters are Jace Wayland and Clarissa (Clary) Fray.
She lived all her life as a regular girl, she shares an apartment with her mom and is very close to her best friend Simon.
What she doesn't know is that she is not a mundane (average human) she is something more.

Jace is... well... Jace. Hard to describe. His entire personality is a contradiction. He is sweet and also can be an ass (sorry!), he is brave but at the same time is scared of the simplest things, he is SO egocentric and proud of himself but also insecure.
Though, he made me LOL many times (while I wanted to punch him in the face)

“Have you fallen in love with the wrong person yet?'

Jace said, "Unfortunately, Lady of the Haven, my one true love remains myself."
..."At least," she said, "you don't have to worry about rejection, Jace Wayland."
"Not necessarily. I turn myself down occasionally, just to keep it interesting.”

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Giggling and killer instincts with this guy :P

What I found a little unbelievable was Clary's reaction to the truth. I mean, it was too easy.
It was like: "We live in a world of Vampires, werewolves and demons and you are not a normal human you are a hunter" "Ok".
That's it. (well, not exactly that way but that's how I felt it)

“Can I help you with something?"
Clary turned instant traitor against her gender. "Those girls on the other side of the car are staring at you."
Jace assumed an air of mellow gratification. "Of course they are," he said, "I am stunningly attractive.”

And one more thing, there is a part where the author describes Jace and she mentions he has a broken tooth. -.-
I am a dentist!!! I can't imagine a person with a broken tooth sexy so, in my mind, his teeth are perfect. :P

That being said, it is a stunning beginning for a series and can't wait to read the second book!
